Hello Guests! Thanks for visiting our site. My name is Derek Schnarr and I am the Director of Golf at Blackhawk Country Club. This Club is where I grew up. My father was fortunate to be able to call Blackhawk his home from 1970-2000 and because of that, our family got the benefit of growing up at Blackhawk. I have so many incredible memories and relationships that were forged during my father’s stay. I was able to follow his good fortune, with some of my own, as life has given me a chance to come to Blackhawk to create new memories and relationships. It is an honor to be the golf professional at Blackhawk and I love that my wife Christina and two children Addison and Cooper will experience the same wonderful experience I did. Over the years, I have been able to use my father’s little black book to work with some of the best golf professionals, club managers, industry reps and club designers. These relationships have allowed me to grow as a golf professional, with the hope of creating the best golf experience for our members. If there is one thing that I pride myself on, is finding people that are at the top of their areas of expertise and putting them together, to provide the best staff for Blackhawk Country Club. Please take a minute to get to know your staff and what we have to offer to you as a member.
As mentioned above, I have been in golf since the day I was born. Golf was not always the direction I had in mind for my career but once I got to see my dad in action, I knew it was what I wanted to do. My journey has been different than most golf professionals. I started my career in golf by working as a Sales Representative for Zevo Golf. Zevo was responsible for pioneering club fitting throughout the nation and my education on how a golf club works came from a lifelong mentor, AJ Bonar. From there, I went to Taylormade and ran the largest territory, for the largest golf company in the world. After Adidas bought Taylormade, a lot changed. I found myself back on the other side of the business at Vitense Golfland, where I started the Balance & Believe Golf Academy. Nothing has been more rewarding than being able to work with our youth and make a difference in their lives, both on and off the golf course. The Academy has had a ton of success producing incredible people and players, while racking up numerous victories at every level.
The Balance & Believe Academy at Blackhawk has the best collection of golfers in the state.
Matt is our Head Golf Professional and has been at Blackhawk longer than a lot of our members. He has grown into an incredible golf professional and even better teacher. Matt has been my right hand man over the last 5 years and is solely responsible for making me look good. There is not a question he does not know the answer to and his upbeat personality and constant enthusiasm for golf and Blackhawk is contagious. Matt runs all the member inside and non-member outside events. He also runs our PGA Junior League and coaches at Madison Memorial. Matt and his wife Megan recently brought a new baby girl, Mabel into the world. He’s currently learning about sleepless nights, but continues to provide outstanding service!
Britt is our Assistant Golf Professional and a Madison native. She is one of the most decorated female players around. Her career started at Madison West where she won 3 straight Big Eight titles and took numerous trips to the State Tournament. She then took her ability to UW-Stout, where she played #1 all 4 years and lead her team to the NCAA tournament. Britt received one of the highest honors as a Collegiate All-American. Britt runs our Ladies 18 -Hole League and the very famous Nine Wine & Dine League we offer at Blackhawk, which is about having fun, whether on the course or having dinner together! She now coaches at Madison Memorial in the spring.
If you have questions about billing or inventory, Britt is who you would call.
Melanie is a true jack of all trades and has been at Blackhawk for 5 years. This year, we have finally found her calling as the Merchandise Manager. Mel has been meeting with vendors to try and create a well-balanced golf shop for your shopping experience. I like to give her the title of ‘being in charge of first impressions’ and that is why she also partners with our new Communication Director, to form the team tasked with delivering membership services.
